About Crowns from Dr. Dean Hutto

Crowns, which are sometimes called dental caps, are individually made to match your existing teeth. They are a protective outer cover that adds protection as well as visual appeal.

There are several types of crowns including: those made of metal (usually gold or alloys) as well as porcelain fused to metal or all-porcelain crowns. Baytown’s Dr. Dean Hutto recommends the use of all ceramic crowns, or porcelain crowns, as they have the best possible match with your existing teeth and are an ideal choice for visible teeth for that reason.

Crown Fitting Procedure

For the majority of our patients crowns can be fitted at Aesthetic Family Dentistry in Baytown, Texas in just a couple of visits. On the first visit Dr. Dean Hutto will examine the tooth and remove any damaged portion of the tooth. This will be done when your tooth is numb for your comfort.

The tooth will also be filed to allow the all ceramic crown to be correctly fitted to match with the surface of your existing teeth. In the case of tooth damage or decay the tooth may also be built up to provide a surface for the crown to attach to. An impression will then be taken of the tooth and the surrounding teeth so a porcelain crown can be made to match. You will be provided with a temporary crown to protect your tooth until the permanent crown is ready.

On the second visit your permanent porcelain crown will be fitted. Minor adjustments will be made so you have an aligned bite and the crown feels comfortable for you. It will be permanently cemented into place, giving you the smile that you always wanted.
