Cosmetic Bonding by Dr. Dean Hutto
The process of cosmetic bonding, which is also known as dental bonding, is a common cosmetic procedure at Aesthetic Family Dentistry in Baytown, TX. Typically, unless Dr. Dean Hutto will need to work on the root or if the tooth is decayed, no anesthesia is required.
The tooth is gently filed to create a slightly rough surface. At the same time a comparison of your natural teeth, for color, is completed and a resin is made that will perfectly match your current teeth. A conditioning compound is then applied to the tooth followed by the custom colored resin.
The thick resin sticks to the tooth’s surface as well as holds the shape that the Dr. Hutto creates. This shape will match the current tooth as well as the surrounding teeth to create a very natural look. It is molded and shaped and the surface is smoothed while the resin is still malleable.
A special light is then applied to the resin that causes it to harden and creates your new tooth surface. Final polishing and shape adjustments are made and the process is complete. In most situations, where one tooth is being bonded, the entire process is completed in about an hour.
