What Is Composite Resin?
Composite resin is a mixture of an acrylic resin, which provides the bonding ability, and very tiny particles that are similar to glass or ceramic. When they combine they are a very hard, durable and safe material that can be used to bond to the existing tooth surface and fill in areas of damage or decay.
As they are a material that comes in a variety of shades, it is possible for Dr. Dean Hutto to accurately match the composite resin with the natural color of your teeth. The result is a filling in the front or back of the mouth that is virtually undetectable.
There are many concerns about silver or amalgam fillings due to Mercury content. Many people now look to replace those fillings with white fillings.
Caring For Tooth-Colored Fillings
Although some people experience a mild sensitivity immediately after the tooth-colored fillings are placed, this will typically pass within a few days. Immediately after the procedure has been completed and you leave the office you can enjoy your new, complete tooth and treat it as you would your other teeth. However, remember if you had anesthesia you should wait for that to fully wear off before eating or drinking.
Composite resin can stain so it is important to carefully brush, floss and attend all your regular dental checkups. Tooth whitening products do not alter the color of tooth-colored fillings or other porcelain dental restorations so be sure to talk to Dr. Hutto to whiten your teeth before the procedure if this is concern.
